Role:EnsembleCarrefour is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and has gained a reputation for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The founding members of Carrefour were violinist Jennifer Choi, cellist James Wilson, and pianist Vicky Chow. All three musicians had established successful careers as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. They were joined by violist Kyle Armbrust and clarinetist Joshua Rubin, both of whom were also highly regarded musicians in the New York classical music scene. From the beginning, Carrefour set out to explore the boundaries of chamber music and to bring new and exciting works to audiences. The ensemble's repertoire includes both classical masterpieces and contemporary compositions, and they are known for their adventurous programming that often combines different styles and genres. One of the highlights of Carrefour's early career was their performance at the 2009 Bang on a Can Marathon, a renowned festival of contemporary music held in New York City. The ensemble's performance of Steve Reich's "Different Trains" was particularly well-received, and it helped to establish Carrefour as a leading interpreter of contemporary music. In the years that followed, Carrefour continued to build its reputation through a series of high-profile performances and collaborations. In 2011, the ensemble performed at the Lincoln Center Festival, where they premiered a new work by composer Huang Ruo. The following year, Carrefour collaborated with the acclaimed dance company Pilobolus on a production called "Seraph," which was performed at the Joyce Theater in New York City. Carrefour has also been recognized for its outstanding musicianship and innovative programming. In 2012, the ensemble was awarded a Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Grant, which allowed them to commission a new work by composer Anna Clyne. The resulting piece, "Rest These Hands," was premiered by Carrefour in 2013 and has since been performed by other ensembles around the world. In addition to their performances and commissions, Carrefour is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with students at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music, and they have also presented educational concerts for young audiences in New York City. Today, Carrefour continues to push the boundaries of chamber music and to bring new and exciting works to audiences around the world. The ensemble's current members include violinist Jennifer Choi, cellist James Wilson, pianist Vicky Chow, violist Nadia Sirota, and clarinetist Joshua Rubin. With their virtuosic performances and innovative programming, Carrefour is sure to remain a leading force in the world of classical music for years to come.More....
