Role:EnsembleEnsemble Berger Fortuné is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music. The ensemble is based in France and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of Baroque and Renaissance music. The founding members of Ensemble Berger Fortuné were flutist François Lazarevitch, violinist Florence Bolton, and harpsichordist Benjamin Alard. Lazarevitch and Bolton had previously worked together in the ensemble Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien, while Alard was a well-known soloist and chamber musician. The three musicians were joined by cellist Ronan Kernoa and viola da gamba player Alix Verzier to form the core of the ensemble. Ensemble Berger Fortuné takes its name from the French word "berger," which means shepherd, and the Italian word "fortunato," which means fortunate. The name reflects the ensemble's desire to explore the pastoral and rustic elements of early music, while also celebrating the good fortune of being able to make music together. From the beginning, Ensemble Berger Fortuné set out to create performances that were both historically informed and musically engaging. The ensemble's members are all highly trained in the techniques and styles of early music, and they use period instruments and performance practices to recreate the sound and feel of music from the Baroque and Renaissance periods. One of the highlights of Ensemble Berger Fortuné's early career was their performance at the Festival de Sablé in 2013. The festival is one of the most prestigious early music festivals in France, and the ensemble's performance was widely praised for its energy, precision, and musicality. The ensemble also received the Prix Jeune Talent from the festival, which recognizes outstanding young musicians in the early music field. Since then, Ensemble Berger Fortuné has gone on to perform at many other major festivals and concert series throughout Europe, including the Festival de Saintes, the Festival de La Chaise-Dieu, and the Festival de Musique Ancienne de Callas. The ensemble has also released several critically acclaimed recordings, including their debut album, "Le Printemps," which features music by Vivaldi, Telemann, and other Baroque composers. One of the unique aspects of Ensemble Berger Fortuné's performances is their use of improvisation. The ensemble's members are all skilled improvisers, and they often incorporate improvised sections into their performances of Baroque and Renaissance music. This approach allows the musicians to bring a fresh and spontaneous energy to their performances, while also staying true to the improvisational traditions of the music they are playing. Another highlight of Ensemble Berger Fortuné's career was their collaboration with the French choreographer Béatrice Massin. Massin is known for her innovative and playful approach to Baroque dance, and she worked with the ensemble to create a program of music and dance that explored the themes of love and desire in Baroque music. The resulting performance, "Les Amours Baroques," was a huge success and was praised for its beauty, humor, and emotional depth. Ensemble Berger Fortuné has also been recognized for their commitment to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and they have worked with schools and community organizations to bring early music to a wider audience.More....
