Born on August 6, 1955, in Dallas, Texas, Deveau grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Deveau started playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Deveau's family moved to Boston when he was six years old, and he continued his musical education under the guidance of his mother. He attended the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Russell Sherman and Patricia Zander. Deveau also received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University, where he studied with Robert Levin. Deveau's career as a professional pianist began in the early 1980s when he won the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions. This win led to numerous performances in major concert halls across the United States, including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
