Wachter began her musical training at the Vienna Music Academy, where she studied under the guidance of Hilde Rössel-Majdan. She made her debut in 1962 at the Vienna State Opera as Cherubino in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." Her performance was well-received, and she quickly became a favorite among audiences and critics alike. Over the course of her career, Wachter performed in many of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Paris Opera.
