He was born into a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, Piantini was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Piantini's talent was evident from a young age, and he quickly became a prodigy in the Dominican Republic. He began performing in public at the age of six and was soon invited to perform at various concerts and events throughout the country. At the age of nine, he won his first national piano competition, and by the age of 12, he had already performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic. In 1980, Piantini moved to the United States to further his musical education. He attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Adele Marcus. During his time at Juilliard, Piantini won numerous awards and competitions, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. After graduating from Juilliard, Piantini embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Piantini's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Franz Liszt, and has been praised for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of Liszt's music. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Piantini is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at various institutions, including the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School, and has mentored numerous young pianists who have gone on to successful careers in music. Throughout his career, Piantini has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to classical music. In 1991, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He has also been awarded the Dominican Republic's National Prize for the Arts, and in 2015, he was awarded the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sanchez, and Mella, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a citizen of the Dominican Republic.
