Samuel Mariño is a Venezuelan classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a pianist, conductor, and composer. Born on May 5, 1989, in Caracas, Venezuela, Mariño showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He was raised in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a conductor. Mariño's talent was evident from a young age, and he began performing in public at the age of six. He went on to study at the Escuela Superior de Música José Ángel Lamas in Caracas, where he received a degree in piano performance. He also studied conducting with Rodolfo Saglimbeni and composition with Alfredo del Mónaco. Mariño's career as a pianist took off when he won first prize at the 2008 National Piano Competition in Venezuela. This led to performances with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Venezuela and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. He also performed as a soloist with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Maracaibo, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Lara. In 2010, Mariño was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where he earned a Master of Music degree in piano performance. While in London, he performed at the Wigmore Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, among other venues. He also won the RCM Concerto Competition, which led to a performance with the RCM Symphony Orchestra. Mariño's career as a conductor began in 2012, when he was appointed assistant conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela. He went on to conduct the orchestra in several concerts, including a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. He also conducted the Orquesta Sinfónica de Maracaibo and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Lara. In 2014, Mariño was awarded a scholarship to study conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in Germany. While there, he conducted the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and the NDR Radiophilharmonie. He also studied with renowned conductors such as Christoph von Dohnányi and Simone Young. Mariño's career as a composer began in 2015, when he was commissioned to write a piece for the Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela. The resulting work, "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra," was premiered by Mariño as soloist and conductor. He has since written several other works, including a string quartet and a piano trio. Mariño has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to his wins at the National Piano Competition and the RCM Concerto Competition, he was awarded the Order of Merit in the Fine Arts by the Venezuelan government in 2013. He was also named a Steinway Artist in 2016. Mariño continues to perform as a pianist, conductor, and composer, and has become a sought-after artist in Venezuela and abroad. He is known for his passionate and expressive performances, as well as his commitment to promoting classical music in his home country.
