Tannie Willemstijn is a renowned classical music artist known for her exceptional skills as a cellist. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on May 12, 1975, Tannie showed an early interest in music and began playing the cello at the age of six. Her parents, both musicians, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Tannie's early years were spent studying under the guidance of renowned cellists in the Netherlands. She quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent and was awarded several scholarships to study abroad. In 1993, Tannie moved to the United States to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. During her time at Juilliard, Tannie studied under the tutelage of some of the most respected cellists in the world, including Yo-Yo Ma and Lynn Harrell. She also had the opportunity to perform with the Juilliard Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. After graduating from Juilliard in 1997, Tannie began her professional career as a cellist. She performed Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B minor to critical acclaim, and the performance was hailed as one of the best of the year. Tannie has also been recognized for her exceptional talent with several awards and honors. In 2003, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for the future. She was also awarded the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2005, which is given to exceptional young musicians to help support their careers.
