He was born on December 31, 1984, in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in a family that valued music. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer, so it was only natural that Kang would be drawn to music. Kang began playing the violin at the age of five and quickly showed a remarkable talent for the instrument. He received his early training at the Yewon School in Seoul, where he studied with Professor Nam Yun Kim. He then went on to study at the Korean National University of Arts, where he was a student of Professor Dong-Suk Kang. In 2003, he won first prize at the Joong-Ang Music Competition, and in 2004, he won first prize at the Dong-A Music Competition. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, where he was a student of Professor Christoph Poppen. Kang's career as a professional musician began to take off in the late 2000s. He made his debut with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2008, performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. He has performed with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
