Role:ConductorNikolai Malko was a renowned conductor and composer of classical music. He was born on May 4, 1883, in Vologda, Russia. Malko was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a violinist in the Imperial Orchestra. Malko began his musical education at a young age, studying the violin and piano with his father. He later attended the St. Petersburg Conservatory, where he studied composition with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and conducting with Felix Blumenfeld. Malko began his career as a conductor in 1909, when he was appointed as the conductor of the Imperial Opera in Kiev. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented conductor, and in 1917, he was appointed as the conductor of the Petrograd Philharmonic Orchestra. Malko remained in this position until 1920, when he left Russia due to the political turmoil of the time. After leaving Russia, Malko worked as a conductor in various European cities, including Berlin, Paris, and Copenhagen. In 1925, he was appointed as the conductor of the Danish State Radio Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 1930. During his time in Denmark, Malko gained a reputation as one of the leading conductors of his time, and he was invited to conduct many of the world's leading orchestras. In 1930, Malko was appointed as the conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held until 1933. During his time in London, Malko conducted many of the orchestra's most famous performances, including the premiere of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Symphony No. 4. He also conducted the premiere of his own composition, the Symphony in E minor. In 1933, Malko was appointed as the conductor of the Danish Royal Orchestra, a position he held until 1955. During his time in Denmark, Malko continued to gain a reputation as one of the leading conductors of his time. He conducted many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. Malko was also a prolific composer, and he wrote many works for orchestra, including symphonies, concertos, and ballets. His most famous composition is the Symphony in E minor, which was premiered in London in 1931. Malko's music is characterized by its lush harmonies and colorful orchestration. Throughout his career, Malko received many awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1947, he was awarded the Order of the Dannebrog, one of Denmark's highest honors. He was also awarded the Order of the White Rose of Finland in 1953. Malko died on June 23, 1961, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
