The Left Coast Chamber Ensemble is a classical music group based in San Francisco, California. The ensemble was founded in 1992 by flutist and artistic director Stacey Pelinka, and has since become one of the most respected and innovative chamber music groups in the United States. The ensemble's mission is to perform and promote contemporary chamber music, with a particular focus on works by living composers. The group is known for its adventurous programming, which often includes world premieres and lesser-known works alongside more established pieces. Over the years, the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the San Francisco Symphony's SoundBox. The group has also collaborated with a wide range of artists, including the Kronos Quartet, pianist Sarah Cahill, and composer John Adams. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career came in 2009, when they were invited to perform at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The concert, which featured works by American composers including John Adams, Lou Harrison, and Terry Riley, was hailed as a triumph by critics and audiences alike. In addition to their performances, the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble is also committed to education and outreach. The group regularly works with young musicians and composers, offering workshops and masterclasses to help nurture the next generation of classical music talent. In 2012, they were awarded the prestigious CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, which recognizes ensembles that demonstrate a commitment to contemporary music. The group has also been praised for their recordings, which include works by composers such as John Adams, Lou Harrison, and Gabriela Lena Frank.
