Role:ConductorHeinrich Christensen is a renowned classical music artist who has made significant contributions to the world of music. Born in Denmark in 1963, Christensen showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later went on to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. After completing his studies, Christensen moved to the United States to pursue his career as a musician. He settled in Boston, where he quickly established himself as a talented pianist and organist. He began performing regularly at local churches and concert halls, and soon gained a reputation as one of the city's most promising young musicians. In 1990, Christensen was appointed as the organist and choirmaster at King's Chapel in Boston, a position he still holds today. He has also served as the music director of the Boston Cecilia, a renowned choral group, since 1995. Under his leadership, the group has performed numerous concerts and recordings, and has gained a reputation as one of the finest choral ensembles in the country. Throughout his career, Christensen has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician. He has appeared as a guest artist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the world's most celebrated musicians, including Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, and Renée Fleming. Christensen's repertoire is wide-ranging, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of J.S. Bach, and has recorded several acclaimed albums of Bach's keyboard works. He is also a champion of contemporary music, and has premiered numerous works by living composers. In addition to his performing career, Christensen is also a respected educator. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the New England Conservatory of Music and the Longy School of Music. He is currently on the faculty of the Harvard University Department of Music, where he teaches courses in music history and performance. Christensen has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1996, he was awarded the prestigious Léonie Sonning Music Prize, one of the highest honors in classical music. He has also been awarded the Harvard University Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Prize, the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Classical Musician, and the Boston Society of Architects Award for Excellence in Design.
