Frances Lucey was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Frances showed a natural talent for music and began taking piano lessons at the age of four. As she grew older, Frances became more interested in classical music and began studying the violin. She quickly excelled at the instrument and began performing in local orchestras and competitions. By the age of 12, Frances had won several awards for her violin playing and was invited to perform with the New York Philharmonic. Frances continued to study the violin throughout her teenage years and eventually went on to attend the Juilliard School in New York City. While at Juilliard, Frances studied under some of the most renowned violinists in the world and honed her skills as a performer. After graduating from Juilliard, Frances began performing professionally and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young violinists in the world. She performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. In addition to her work as a soloist, Frances was also a dedicated chamber musician. She formed a string quartet with three of her closest friends from Juilliard and the group quickly gained a following for their innovative and dynamic performances. Throughout her career, Frances received numerous awards and accolades for her playing. She won the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis in 2008 and was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2010. She was also a recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship in 2014. Despite her success, Frances remained humble and dedicated to her craft. She continued to practice for hours every day and was always looking for ways to improve her playing. She was known for her intense focus and dedication to her art, and her performances were always filled with emotion and passion. Tragically, Frances' career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2016. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, she passed away in 2018 at the age of 33. Frances' legacy as a musician lives on, however, through her recordings and the memories of those who were lucky enough to hear her play. She was a true artist who dedicated her life to her craft, and her contributions to the world of classical music will never be forgotten.
