Geoffrey Sirett is a Canadian baritone who has established himself as a versatile and dynamic performer in the classical music world. Born in Toronto, Canada, Sirett grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. He attended the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. Sirett's career began to take off in the early 2000s, when he won several prestigious awards and competitions. In 2002, he was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and in 2003, he won the George London Foundation Award. These early successes helped to establish Sirett as a rising star in the classical music world. Sirett's talent and versatility as a performer have led him to a wide range of roles and performances. He has appeared in operas, oratorios, and recitals across North America and Europe, and has worked with some of the most renowned conductors and directors in the field. One of Sirett's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Benjamin Britten's "Billy Budd" at the Canadian Opera Company in 2014. The production was widely praised for its powerful and emotional performances, and Sirett's portrayal of the conflicted and tragic Billy Budd was particularly lauded. Sirett has also been recognized for his work in contemporary music, and has premiered several new works by Canadian composers. In 2016, he performed in the world premiere of "The Enslavement and Liberation of Oksana G." by Aaron Gervais at Tapestry Opera in Toronto. The opera, which explores the experiences of a Ukrainian woman who is trafficked to Canada, was praised for its powerful and timely message, and Sirett's performance was singled out for its emotional depth and sensitivity. In addition to his work as a performer, Sirett is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at several institutions, including the University of Toronto and the Canadian Opera Company's Ensemble Studio, and has worked with young singers to help them develop their skills and careers. Throughout his career, Sirett has received numerous awards and accolades for his performances. In addition to the George London Foundation Award, he has been a recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts' Career Development Grant, the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation Grant, and the Ontario Arts Council's Chalmers Professional Development Grant. Despite his many accomplishments, Sirett remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and is committed to bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world.
