Scott Nickrenz is a renowned classical music artist who has made significant contributions to the world of music as a producer, manager, and artistic director. He was born in New York City in 1951 and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a jazz musician, and his mother was a music teacher, which exposed him to different genres of music from an early age. Nickrenz began his musical journey as a pianist, but he soon realized that his true passion lay in the production and management of classical music. He attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied piano and music theory. In 1984, Nickrenz left Deutsche Grammophon to co-found the chamber music ensemble, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS). The CMS was established to promote the performance and appreciation of chamber music in the United States. Nickrenz served as the artistic director of the CMS for over a decade, during which time he curated several successful concert series and commissioned new works from contemporary composers. One of the highlights of Nickrenz's tenure at the CMS was the "Beethoven Quartet Cycle," a series of concerts that featured all 16 of Beethoven's string quartets. The cycle was performed over the course of two seasons and was widely acclaimed for its artistic excellence and historical significance. In addition to his work with the CMS, Nickrenz has also served as the artistic director of the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival and the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival. He has produced several recordings for the Nonesuch and Sony Classical labels and has worked with some of the most prominent classical musicians of the 21st century, including Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, and Joshua Bell. Nickrenz's contributions to the world of classical music have been recognized with several awards and honors. In 1995, he received the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for his contributions to music journalism. In 2001, he was awarded the Samuel Sanders Collaborative Artist Award by the Classical Recording Foundation. In 2014, he was inducted into the Classical Music Hall of Fame. In addition to his work as a producer and artistic director, Nickrenz is also a passionate advocate for music education. He has served on the board of directors for several music education organizations, including the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts and the New York Youth Symphony.
