Per Dreier was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1965, in Oslo, Norway. He was the youngest of three children born to his parents, who were both music enthusiasts. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged Per to pursue music from a young age. Per began his musical journey by learning to play the piano at the age of six. He showed a natural talent for the instrument and quickly progressed, impressing his teachers with his ability to play complex pieces with ease. As he grew older, he became interested in other instruments, including the violin and the cello, and began to study them as well. In his teenage years, Per became increasingly interested in classical music and began to attend concerts and performances regularly. He was particularly drawn to the works of composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart, and spent many hours practicing their pieces on the piano. After completing his secondary education, Per decided to pursue a career in music and enrolled at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. He studied under some of the most renowned music teachers in the country and honed his skills as a pianist, violinist, and cellist. Per's talent and dedication soon caught the attention of the music world, and he began to receive invitations to perform at concerts and festivals across Europe. He made his debut as a solo pianist at the age of 21, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the next few years, Per continued to perform at major concerts and festivals, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosity and musicality. He was particularly noted for his interpretations of the works of Bach, which he played with a rare combination of technical precision and emotional depth. In 1992, Per won the prestigious International Bach Competition in Leipzig, Germany, cementing his reputation as one of the world's leading interpreters of Bach's music. The competition was a major turning point in his career, and he began to receive invitations to perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Per's career continued to flourish throughout the 1990s and 2000s, and he became a regular performer at major festivals such as the Salzburg Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival. He also made several recordings, including a critically acclaimed album of Bach's Goldberg Variations. In addition to his work as a performer, Per was also a dedicated music educator. He taught at the Norwegian Academy of Music for many years, and his students included some of the most promising young musicians in the country. Tragically, Per's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, he passed away on June 15, 2011, at the age of 46. Per Dreier's legacy as a musician and educator lives on, however, and he is remembered as one of the most talented and dedicated classical music artists of his generation. His recordings and performances continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world, and his influence can be felt in the work of the many students he taught over the years.
