The Orlando Pops Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Orlando, Florida. Founded in 1991 by conductor Andrew Lane, the orchestra has become a beloved fixture in the Central Florida music scene, known for its dynamic performances and commitment to bringing classical music to a wider audience. Andrew Lane, a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, had a vision for a new kind of orchestra that would combine the best of classical music with popular music, creating a unique sound that would appeal to a broad range of listeners. With this in mind, he founded the Orlando Pops Orchestra, assembling a group of talented musicians from across the region. The orchestra's first performance took place in 1992, and it was an immediate success. Audiences were drawn to the orchestra's innovative approach to classical music, which included arrangements of popular songs and movie themes alongside traditional classical pieces. The orchestra quickly gained a reputation for its high-energy performances and engaging stage presence. Over the years, the Orlando Pops Orchestra has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the region, including the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, the Amway Center, and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. The orchestra has also collaborated with a number of high-profile artists, including Broadway star Lea Salonga, jazz musician Dave Koz, and pop singer Michael Bolton. One of the highlights of the orchestra's career came in 2009, when it was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The performance was part of the National Symphony Orchestra's "Summer Music Institute," and it was a major milestone for the Orlando Pops Orchestra, which had never before performed on such a prestigious stage.
