Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1955, Rubinsky began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Rubinsky studied at the National School of Music in Rio de Janeiro and later at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned a Master of Music degree. She also studied with renowned pianists such as György Sándor, Maria João Pires, and Claudio Arrau. Rubinsky's career as a concert pianist began in the 1980s, when she performed extensively in Brazil and other countries in South America. She gained critical acclaim for her interpretations of works by Brazilian composers such as Heitor Villa-Lobos, Camargo Guarnieri, and Francisco Mignone, as well as for her performances of European classical repertoire. In 1990, Rubinsky made her debut at New York's Carnegie Hall, performing works by Villa-Lobos and Chopin. This performance marked a turning point in her career, as she began to receive invitations to perform at major concert halls and festivals around the world. She has also collaborated with renowned conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, and Lorin Maazel. Rubinsky's recordings have received widespread critical acclaim and have won numerous awards, including a Latin Grammy for her recording of Villa-Lobos's complete piano works. She has also recorded the complete piano works of Brazilian composers such as Guarnieri and Mignone, as well as works by European composers such as Chopin, Schumann, and Debussy. Rubinsky's performances and recordings have helped to bring attention to the rich tradition of classical music in Brazil and to the works of Brazilian composers who are often overlooked in the international classical music scene.
