He was born on March 2, 1970, in Leiden, Netherlands, to Indonesian parents. His father, Soerjadi Soerjadiredja, was a diplomat, and his mother, Rien Vroegindeweij, was a pianist. Wibi showed an interest in music at a young age and began playing the piano when he was just four years old. Wibi's family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, when he was six years old. He continued his piano studies with his mother and later with the renowned Indonesian pianist, Maria Theresia Sumarsih. Wibi's talent was evident from a young age, and he won his first piano competition at the age of ten. In 1981, Wibi's family moved to the Netherlands, where he continued his piano studies with Jan Wijn at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He also studied composition with Robert Heppener and Ton de Leeuw. Wibi's talent continued to flourish, and he won several prestigious piano competitions, including the Princess Christina Competition in 1985 and the Franz Liszt Piano Competition in 1989.
