Evelyn Chen is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with her virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1975, Chen began playing the piano at the age of five and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Her parents recognized her potential and enrolled her in the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City when she was just nine years old. At Juilliard, Chen studied with some of the most respected piano teachers in the world, including Yoheved Kaplinsky and Jerome Lowenthal. She also had the opportunity to perform in some of the school's most prestigious venues, such as Alice Tully Hall and the Juilliard Theater. Chen's talent and hard work paid off when she graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1995. After graduating from Juilliard, Chen continued her studies at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, where she earned a Master of Music degree in 1997. She then went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany, where she received a Konzertexamen degree in 2001. Throughout her studies, Chen won numerous awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition, the Peabody Concerto Competition, and the Hannover International Piano Competition. These accolades helped to establish her as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. Chen's career as a professional pianist began in earnest in the early 2000s, when she started performing in major concert halls around the world. She made her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2002, playing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the New York Youth Symphony. The performance was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish Chen as a rising star in the classical music world. Since then, Chen has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, such as Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Zubin Mehta. Chen's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by many of the greatest composers in the classical music canon. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, but she has also performed works by Beethoven, Mozart, and many others. In addition to her work as a performer, Chen is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, and the Juilliard School in New York City. Her students have gone on to win numerous awards and competitions, and many have established successful careers as professional pianists. Chen's performances have been widely praised for their technical brilliance, emotional depth, and musical sensitivity. Critics have described her playing as "dazzling," "mesmerizing," and "spellbinding." She has been compared to some of the greatest pianists of all time, such as Vladimir Horowitz and Martha Argerich. Throughout her career, Chen has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2006, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great promise for the future.
