Role:EnsembleThe Lincoln Trio is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of virtuosity and passion for over a decade. The trio consists of violinist Desirée Ruhstrat, cellist David Cunliffe, and pianist Marta Aznavoorian, who have been performing together since 2003. Desirée Ruhstrat was born in Chicago and began playing the violin at the age of three. She studied at the Music Institute of Chicago and later at the Juilliard School in New York. David Cunliffe was born in New Zealand and began playing the cello at the age of six. He studied at the University of Canterbury and later at the Juilliard School. Marta Aznavoorian was born in Chicago and began playing the piano at the age of three. She studied at the Music Institute of Chicago and later at the New England Conservatory of Music. The Lincoln Trio was formed in 2003 and quickly gained recognition for their dynamic performances and innovative programming. They have performed at major venues throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Ravinia Festival, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. They have also performed internationally, including in Canada, Mexico, and Europe. One of the highlights of the Lincoln Trio's career was their performance at the 2006 Smithsonian American Art Museum's Steinway Series. The trio performed works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Shostakovich to a sold-out audience. The performance was praised for its "exquisite musicianship" and "passionate interpretation." In 2008, the Lincoln Trio released their debut album, Notable Women, which featured works by female composers such as Jennifer Higdon, Stacy Garrop, and Joan Tower. The album was critically acclaimed and received a Grammy nomination for Best Chamber Music Performance. The Lincoln Trio has also been recognized for their commitment to education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools throughout the United States.
