The Claremont Duo is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of guitar and flute music for over three decades. The duo was founded in 1981 by flutist Susan Jolles and guitarist Oren Fader, both of whom were students at the Claremont Graduate School in California at the time. Jolles and Fader quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together as the Claremont Duo. They soon gained a reputation for their virtuosic playing and innovative programming, which often featured lesser-known works by contemporary composers alongside more traditional repertoire. Over the years, the Claremont Duo has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Aspen Music Festival. They have also collaborated with a wide range of musicians and ensembles, from jazz pianist Fred Hersch to the New York Philharmonic. One of the highlights of the Claremont Duo's career was their performance at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where they played for an audience of millions during the opening ceremonies. They have also been featured on numerous recordings, including their critically acclaimed album "The Art of the Duo," which was released in 2005. In addition to their performances, Jolles and Fader are both highly respected educators and have taught at some of the country's top music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. They have also been recognized for their contributions to the field of music education, receiving awards from organizations such as the National Flute Association and the Guitar Foundation of America. Despite their many accomplishments, the Claremont Duo remains committed to exploring new musical territory and pushing the boundaries of their instruments. They continue to perform regularly and are widely regarded as one of the most dynamic and innovative chamber music ensembles of their generation.
