The ensemble was founded in 1973 by Jaroslav Krček, a Czech composer, conductor, and musicologist. Krček was inspired to create Musica Bohemica after studying the music of the Czech Baroque composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. The ensemble's main members are a group of talented musicians who are dedicated to performing historically informed interpretations of Baroque and Classical music. The ensemble's core members include violinists Jana Semerádová and Václav Hudeček, cellist Petr Hejný, and harpsichordist and organist Jaroslav Tůma. The ensemble has also recorded numerous albums, many of which have received critical acclaim. One of the highlights of Musica Bohemica's career was their performance at the Prague Spring International Music Festival in 1985.
