The Orchester der Deutschen Staatsoper, also known as the Orchestra of the German State Opera, is a classical music ensemble based in Berlin, Germany. The orchestra was founded in 1742 and has since become one of the most renowned orchestras in the world. The orchestra was originally founded as the Court Opera Orchestra by Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. The ensemble was made up of 24 musicians and was primarily used to perform operas at the royal court. Over time, the orchestra grew in size and reputation, and in 1919 it became the official orchestra of the Berlin State Opera. Throughout its history, the Orchester der Deutschen Staatsoper has been led by many notable conductors, including Otto Klemperer, Herbert von Karajan, and Daniel Barenboim.
