Jan Karlin is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. She was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1952, and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father was a jazz musician, and her mother was a music teacher, which exposed her to music at an early age. Karlin began her musical journey by learning to play the piano at the age of six. She showed a natural talent for music and quickly progressed to playing more complex pieces. She also started singing in her school choir and discovered her love for choral music. Karlin went on to study music at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. She also worked on numerous film scores, including the Academy Award-winning score for the movie "The Red Violin." Karlin's work as a music producer and engineer earned her numerous accolades and awards. She won a Grammy Award in 1999 for Best Engineered Album, Classical, for her work on the album "Symphony No. 1" by John Corigliano. She also won a Grammy Award in 2001 for Best Surround Sound Album for her work on the album "Mahler: Symphony No. 5" by Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony. In addition to her work as a music producer and engineer, Karlin is also an accomplished choral conductor. She has conducted numerous choirs, including the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, and the Pacific Chorale. She has also conducted the London Symphony Chorus and the Royal Philharmonic Chorus. Karlin's work as a choral conductor has earned her critical acclaim and numerous awards. She won a Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Choral Performance for her work on the album "Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem" by Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. She also won a Grammy Award in 2012 for Best Choral Performance for her work on the album "Light & Gold" by Eric Whitacre and the Eric Whitacre Singers.
