The ensemble is made up of five members who are all accomplished musicians in their own right. The members of the ensemble are Wolfgang Kornberger (flute), Andreas Oberaigner (oboe), Christoph Hammer (clarinet), Thomas Riebl (bassoon), and Radovan Vlatković (horn). The Residenz-Quintett-München has become known for their exceptional performances of chamber music, particularly works written for wind quintet. The ensemble has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, and has received critical acclaim for their performances. The founding members of the Residenz-Quintett-München were Wolfgang Kornberger, Andreas Oberaigner, Christoph Hammer, and Thomas Riebl. The four musicians had all studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, and had played together in various chamber music groups before forming the Residenz-Quintett-München. The ensemble's first performance was in 1985 at the Residenz in Munich, which is where the ensemble gets its name. The Residenz is a former royal palace in Munich, and is now a museum and cultural center. The ensemble's performance at the Residenz was well-received, and they soon began to receive invitations to perform at other venues throughout Germany. In 1987, the Residenz-Quintett-München won first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan. This was a major achievement for the ensemble, and helped to establish their reputation as one of the leading wind quintets in the world. Since then, the Residenz-Quintett-München has continued to perform at major concert halls and festivals around the world. They have recorded numerous albums, including works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, as well as contemporary composers such as György Ligeti and Karlheinz Stockhausen. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career was their performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1991. The Salzburg Festival is one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world, and the Residenz-Quintett-München's performance was highly anticipated. The ensemble performed works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Ligeti, and received a standing ovation from the audience. In addition to their performances, the members of the Residenz-Quintett-München are also dedicated teachers. They have all taught at various music schools and conservatories throughout Europe, and have mentored numerous young musicians who have gone on to successful careers in classical music. The Residenz-Quintett-München has received numerous awards and honors throughout their career. In addition to their win at the International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, they have also been awarded the Bavarian State Prize for Music, the Echo Klassik Award, and the Diapason d'Or. Despite their success, the members of the Residenz-Quintett-München remain committed to their craft and to each other. They continue to perform together and to explore new works and collaborations, and are widely regarded as one of the finest wind quintets in the world.More....
