Ensemble Perspectives is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in Montreal, Canada, and is known for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The founding members of Ensemble Perspectives were flutist Lara Deutsch, clarinetist Anthony Thompson, violinist Andréa Tyniec, cellist Elinor Frey, and pianist Philip Chiu. All of the members were accomplished musicians who had studied at some of the world's most prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. From the beginning, Ensemble Perspectives set out to explore the rich and diverse repertoire of chamber music, from the Baroque era to the present day. The ensemble's programming often features lesser-known works by composers from around the world, as well as new works by contemporary composers. One of the highlights of Ensemble Perspectives' early years was its performance at the Montreal Chamber Music Festival in 2013. The ensemble's program included works by Mozart, Brahms, and Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer. The performance was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to establish Ensemble Perspectives as a rising star in the Canadian classical music scene. In 2014, Ensemble Perspectives released its debut album, titled "Perspectives." The album featured works by Brahms, Debussy, and Canadian composer Kelly-Marie Murphy. The album received critical acclaim and helped to further establish the ensemble's reputation as a leading chamber music group. Over the years, Ensemble Perspectives has continued to perform at major music festivals and venues across Canada and around the world. In 2016, the ensemble was invited to perform at the Ottawa Chamberfest, where it presented a program of works by Beethoven, Schumann, and Canadian composer Ana Sokolović. In 2018, Ensemble Perspectives was awarded the prestigious Prix Opus for "Concert of the Year - Modern and Contemporary Music" for its performance of works by Canadian composer Claude Vivier. The concert, which took place at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, was praised for its innovative programming and powerful performances. Ensemble Perspectives has also been recognized for its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in classical music. In 2019, the ensemble launched its "Perspectives on Inclusion" initiative, which aims to increase representation of marginalized communities in classical music. The initiative includes commissioning new works by composers from underrepresented groups, as well as partnering with organizations that promote diversity and inclusivity in the arts. Today, Ensemble Perspectives continues to push the boundaries of chamber music, exploring new repertoire and collaborating with artists from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines. The ensemble's commitment to innovation and inclusivity has made it a leading force in the Canadian classical music scene, and a model for other ensembles around the world.
