The Netherlands Radio Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1945. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious orchestras in the Netherlands, and has a long history of excellence in performance and recording. The orchestra was originally established as the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and was created to provide high-quality classical music programming for the Dutch public. One of the highlights of the Netherlands Radio Orchestra's history was its performance at the 1958 World Expo in Brussels. In 2005, the orchestra won the prestigious Edison Award for its recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 5, and in 2010 it won the same award for its recording of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 7. In addition to its work in the concert hall, the Netherlands Radio Orchestra has also been active in the recording studio.
