From a young age, Skinner was exposed to classical music and began playing the cello at the age of six. Skinner's talent for the cello quickly became apparent, and he began studying with some of the best teachers in London. He attended the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied under the renowned cellist William Pleeth. Skinner's talent and dedication to his craft were evident, and he quickly became one of Pleeth's star pupils. After completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, Skinner began his professional career as a cellist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young cellists in London, and he was soon in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. Skinner's career took off in the 1980s, when he began performing with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. He made his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1982, and he quickly became a regular guest soloist with the orchestra. He also performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. In addition to his work as a soloist, Skinner was also a highly sought-after chamber musician. He performed with some of the most renowned chamber ensembles in the world, including the Amadeus Quartet, the Borodin Quartet, and the Guarneri Quartet. Skinner's talent and dedication to his craft were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1992 for his services to music, and he was also awarded the Queen's Medal for Music in 2007. Skinner's career was not without its challenges, however. In 1995, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that threatened to end his career. Despite the diagnosis, Skinner continued to perform and record, and he underwent extensive treatment to fight the disease. Skinner's battle with cancer was a difficult one, but he emerged from it stronger than ever. He continued to perform and record, and he became an advocate for cancer research and treatment. He also founded the Richard Skinner Foundation, which provides support and resources for cancer patients and their families. Skinner's legacy as a musician and advocate for cancer research and treatment is a testament to his talent, dedication, and resilience. He passed away on June 12, 2015, but his music and his legacy continue to inspire and uplift people around the world.More....
