The Mansfield University Concert Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 80 years. The choir was founded in 1939 by Dr. William Payn, who served as the director for over 30 years. Since then, the choir has been led by several distinguished conductors, including Peggy Dettwiler, who has been the director since 1992. The choir is composed of approximately 50 students from Mansfield University, a public university located in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. The members of the choir are selected through a rigorous audition process and come from a variety of academic disciplines. Despite their diverse backgrounds, the members of the choir share a passion for music and a commitment to excellence. Over the years, the Mansfield University Concert Choir has performed at numerous prestigious venues and events, both nationally and internationally. Some of their most notable performances include singing at the White House for President Bill Clinton, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and touring Europe, where they performed in countries such as Italy, Austria, and Germany. The choir has also received numerous awards and accolades for their exceptional performances. In 2011, they were awarded the American Prize in Choral Performance, and in 2012, they were named the Grand Prize Winner of the National Choral Competition at the Festival of Music in Montreal, Canada. One of the highlights of the choir's history was their performance at the 2009 American Choral Directors Association National Conference in Oklahoma City. The choir was one of only six choirs selected from across the country to perform at the conference, which is considered one of the most prestigious events in the choral music world. In addition to their performances, the Mansfield University Concert Choir is also committed to community outreach and education. They regularly perform at local schools and community events, and they have also collaborated with other choirs and orchestras to bring classical music to a wider audience.
