Quartetto Klimt is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2007 in Vienna, Austria. The quartet is named after the famous Austrian painter Gustav Klimt, who was a prominent figure in the Vienna Secession movement. The ensemble consists of four members: violinists Anna Klimova and Boris Kuschnir, violist Lukas Kuen, and cellist Claudius Herrmann. Anna Klimova was born in Moscow, Russia, and began playing the violin at the age of six. She studied at the Moscow State Conservatory and later at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Boris Kuschnir was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and also began playing the violin at a young age. He studied at the Moscow State Conservatory and later at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria. Lukas Kuen was born in Innsbruck, Austria, and began playing the viola at the age of eight. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Claudius Herrmann was born in Berlin, Germany, and began playing the cello at the age of six. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Quartetto Klimt has performed in many prestigious venues around the world, including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and Carnegie Hall in New York. The quartet has also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Mischa Maisky. One of the highlights of Quartetto Klimt's career was their performance at the Salzburg Festival in 2010. The quartet performed Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131, which is considered one of the most difficult and complex string quartets in the classical repertoire. The performance was highly praised by critics and established Quartetto Klimt as one of the leading ensembles in the world. In 2012, Quartetto Klimt won the prestigious Echo Klassik award for their recording of Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, "Death and the Maiden."
