Brita Hertzberg was born on May 12, 1985, in Helsinki, Finland. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Hertzberg showed a keen interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Hertzberg's talent was quickly recognized, and she began studying at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki at the age of nine. She continued her studies there for ten years, under the tutelage of renowned violinists such as Kaija Saarikettu and Pekka Kuusisto. In 2004, Hertzberg was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied with Rodney Friend and Jan Repko. During her time in London, Hertzberg also had the opportunity to perform with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. After completing her studies in London, Hertzberg returned to Finland and began performing with various orchestras, including the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. She also began to establish herself as a soloist, performing with the Tapiola Sinfonietta and the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2010, Hertzberg was awarded the prestigious Pro Musica Foundation Prize, which is awarded annually to a young Finnish musician who has shown exceptional talent and promise. The prize included a cash award and the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Hertzberg's career continued to flourish, and she began to receive invitations to perform at major music festivals around the world. In 2012, she performed at the Salzburg Festival, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world. She also performed at the Bergen International Festival in Norway and the Festival de Musique de Menton in France. In addition to her performances as a soloist, Hertzberg is also an active chamber musician. She has performed with the Finnish Chamber Orchestra and the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, and she is a founding member of the Helsinki Chamber Music Society. Hertzberg's repertoire is wide-ranging, and she is equally at home performing works by classical composers such as Mozart and Beethoven as she is performing contemporary works by Finnish composers such as Kaija Saariaho and Magnus Lindberg. In addition to her performing career, Hertzberg is also a dedicated teacher.
