Ethos String Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 in New York City. The quartet is made up of four talented musicians who share a passion for classical music and a commitment to excellence in performance. The members of the quartet are violinists Corin Lee and Ralph Farris, violist Ralph Farris, and cellist Dorothy Lawson. The founding of Ethos String Quartet was the result of a shared vision among the four musicians to create a chamber music ensemble that would explore the rich and diverse repertoire of classical music. The quartet's name, Ethos, reflects this vision, as it represents the group's commitment to exploring the cultural and emotional context of the music they perform. Corin Lee, one of the quartet's violinists, is a graduate of the Juilliard School and has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles throughout the United States and Europe. Ralph Farris, the other violinist, is also a graduate of the Juilliard School and has performed with a wide range of artists, including Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. Ralph Farris, the violist, is a founding member of the string quartet ETHEL and has performed with a variety of artists, including David Byrne and Laurie Anderson. The quartet has also collaborated with a variety of artists, including the Kronos Quartet, the Bang on a Can All-Stars, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. One of the highlights of Ethos String Quartet's career was their performance at the 2014 Bang on a Can Marathon in New York City. The marathon is an annual event that features a wide range of contemporary music, and Ethos String Quartet's performance was a standout, featuring works by composers such as John Zorn and Terry Riley. In addition to their performances, Ethos String Quartet has also received numerous awards and accolades for their work. In 2015, the quartet was awarded a Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Grant, which allowed them to commission a new work by composer Anna Clyne. The resulting piece, "Rest These Hands," was premiered by Ethos String Quartet in 2016 and has since been performed by numerous ensembles throughout the world. Overall, Ethos String Quartet is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that is dedicated to exploring the rich and diverse repertoire of classical music. With their commitment to excellence in performance and their passion for the music they play, the quartet has established themselves as one of the most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles of their generation.
