John Treleaven is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of opera. He was born on August 23, 1948, in the town of Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. From a young age, Treleaven showed a keen interest in music, and he began singing in his local church choir. His talent was soon recognized, and he was encouraged to pursue a career in music. Treleaven studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where he honed his skills as a tenor. He made his professional debut in 1972, singing the role of the Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto at the Welsh National Opera. This performance marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career in opera. Over the years, Treleaven has performed in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Paris Opera. He has worked with some of the most renowned conductors and directors in the industry, including Sir Georg Solti, Sir Colin Davis, and Sir Peter Hall. One of Treleaven's most notable performances was his portrayal of Siegfried in Wagner's Ring Cycle at the Royal Opera House in London. In 1991, he was awarded the Welsh Music Guild's Singer of the Year award, and in 1997, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his contribution to German culture.
