The Cincinnati Philharmonia Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The orchestra was founded in 1979 by a group of local musicians who wanted to create a professional-level orchestra that would provide high-quality performances to the community. The founding members of the orchestra included conductor Paul Stanbery, violinist Betty Anne Gottlieb, and cellist David Cole. The orchestra began with just 30 members, but quickly grew in size and reputation. Over the years, the Cincinnati Philharmonia Orchestra has performed a wide range of classical music, including works by Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. The orchestra has also commissioned new works by contemporary composers and has collaborated with local choirs and soloists. One of the highlights of the orchestra's history was its performance at the 1987 National Orchestral Festival in Washington, D.C. The orchestra was one of just six orchestras selected to perform at the festival, which showcased the best young orchestras in the country. In addition to its performances, the Cincinnati Philharmonia Orchestra has also been recognized for its educational outreach programs. The orchestra has worked with local schools to provide music education and has offered free concerts to the community. The orchestra has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1995, the orchestra was awarded the Ohio Governor's Award for the Arts in recognition of its contributions to the cultural life of the state. The orchestra has also been recognized by the Cincinnati Enquirer as one of the top classical music ensembles in the city. Today, the Cincinnati Philharmonia Orchestra continues to be a vital part of the city's cultural scene. The orchestra is led by conductor Christopher Zimmerman and includes over 70 musicians from the Cincinnati area. The orchestra performs regularly throughout the year, with concerts ranging from traditional classical works to contemporary pieces. Despite its success, the Cincinnati Philharmonia Orchestra remains committed to its original mission of providing high-quality classical music to the community. The orchestra continues to offer free concerts and educational programs, ensuring that classical music remains accessible to all.
