The quartet's name, Pro Arte, is derived from the Latin phrase "for art's sake," which reflects the group's commitment to creating music that is both beautiful and meaningful. From the beginning, the quartet's goal was to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music and to bring new life to classic works while also championing contemporary composers. The Pro Arte Quartett Salzburg quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. The quartet's performance of Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, known as "Death and the Maiden," was hailed as a triumph and cemented their reputation as one of the most exciting young ensembles in the classical music world. Over the years, the Pro Arte Quartett Salzburg has continued to push the boundaries of chamber music, collaborating with a wide range of artists and composers to create new and exciting works. They have also been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Echo Klassik award in 2009 for their recording of Mozart's String Quartets.
