Artist Info
Tobie Miller is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself in the world of early music. She was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1979, and grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a singer, so music was always a part of her life. Miller began playing the recorder at the age of six, and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She went on to study at McGill University in Montreal, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in recorder performance. She then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where she studied with Pedro Memelsdorff and Kathrin Bopp. Throughout her career, Miller has been recognized for her exceptional talent and dedication to early music. She has won numerous awards and accolades, including the prestigious Prix d'Europe in 2005, which is awarded to the most promising young musicians in Canada. Miller has performed with some of the most renowned early music ensembles in the world, including Les Arts Florissants, La Chapelle Royale, and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. She has also collaborated with many of the leading figures in the early music world, including William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe, and Jordi Savall. One of the highlights of Miller's career was her performance at the 2008 Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, where she performed a program of French Baroque music with the ensemble Les Voix Humaines. The performance was widely praised for its virtuosity and sensitivity, and cemented Miller's reputation as one of the leading recorder players of her generation. In addition to her work as a performer, Miller is also a dedicated teacher and scholar. She has taught at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, and the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. She has also published several articles and book chapters on early music, and is a sought-after lecturer and presenter. Miller's recordings have also received critical acclaim. Her 2010 album, "The Panther and the Rose," which features music from the 14th-century Chantilly Codex, was praised by critics for its "exquisite beauty" and "impeccable musicianship." Her 2015 album, "The Saxon Alternative," which explores the music of 17th-century Germany, was similarly well-received, with critics praising Miller's "dazzling virtuosity" and "deep musicality." Throughout her career, Miller has remained committed to exploring the rich and varied repertoire of early music. Her performances are characterized by a deep understanding of historical performance practice, as well as a passion for bringing this music to life for modern audiences. With her exceptional talent and dedication, Tobie Miller has established herself as one of the leading figures in the world of early music, and her contributions to the field will undoubtedly continue to be felt for many years to come.More....
