The Muir String Quartet is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over four decades. The founding members of the Muir String Quartet were Peter Zazofsky (violin), Lucia Lin (violin), Steven Ansell (viola), and Michael Reynolds (cello). All four musicians were accomplished soloists and had extensive experience performing with other ensembles before coming together to form the Muir String Quartet. The quartet took its name from John Muir, the famous naturalist and conservationist who was known for his love of nature and the outdoors. The members of the Muir String Quartet felt that Muir's spirit of adventure and exploration was a perfect fit for their own musical journey. From the very beginning, the Muir String Quartet was committed to exploring the full range of the chamber music repertoire, from the classics of Mozart and Beethoven to the modern works of Bartok and Shostakovich. They were also dedicated to commissioning new works from contemporary composers and collaborating with other artists to create innovative and exciting performances. Over the years, the Muir String Quartet has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and music festivals, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Tanglewood Music Festival. They have also toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, earning critical acclaim and a devoted following of fans. One of the highlights of the Muir String Quartet's career was their performance of the complete Beethoven string quartet cycle at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
