The Stuttgart State Opera Chorus is a renowned classical music artist that has been captivating audiences for over 400 years. The chorus was founded in 1609 and has since become one of the most respected and celebrated choirs in the world. The birth of the Stuttgart State Opera Chorus can be traced back to the early 17th century when Duke Johann Friedrich of Württemberg established a court choir in Stuttgart. The choir was initially made up of 12 singers and was tasked with performing at court events and religious services. Over time, the choir grew in size and reputation, and by the mid-18th century, it had become a professional ensemble that performed regularly at the Stuttgart Opera House. Throughout its history, the Stuttgart State Opera Chorus has been led by many talented conductors and directors. One of the most notable was Gustav Mahler, who served as the music director of the Stuttgart Opera from 1886 to 1888. During his tenure, Mahler worked closely with the chorus and helped to establish its reputation as one of the finest in Europe. Over the years, the Stuttgart State Opera Chorus has performed in many of the world's most prestigious concert halls and opera houses. Some of the highlights of their career include performances at the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Bayreuth Festival. They have also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors and orchestras, including Herbert von Karajan, Sir Simon Rattle, and the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition to their live performances, the Stuttgart State Opera Chorus has also made numerous recordings. One of their most acclaimed recordings is their rendition of Verdi's Requiem, which was conducted by Sir Georg Solti and won a Grammy Award in 1986. Throughout their long and illustrious career, the Stuttgart State Opera Chorus has received many awards and accolades. In 2010, they were awarded the Echo Klassik Award for their recording of Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem. They have also been recognized by the German Record Critics' Award and the International Classical Music Awards. Despite their many achievements, the Stuttgart State Opera Chorus remains committed to their mission of bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world. They continue to perform regularly at the Stuttgart Opera House and to tour internationally, delighting audiences with their exquisite vocal performances and their unwavering dedication to their craft.
