Born on June 28, 1920, in London, England, Adeney showed an early interest in music and began playing the flute at the age of 12. He received his early music education at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under the guidance of renowned flutist Marcel Moyse. Adeney's talent as a flutist was quickly recognized, and he soon began performing with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. In 1940, he joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra, where he played for 12 years. During his time with the orchestra, Adeney became known for his exceptional technique and musicality, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become the principal flutist. In 1952, Adeney left the London Philharmonic Orchestra to join the London Symphony Orchestra, where he played for 25 years. During his time with the orchestra, Adeney became one of the most respected and sought-after flutists in the world, and he performed with some of the most renowned conductors and soloists of his time. Adeney's career was marked by numerous highlights, including his performance of Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 1 in G Major with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sir Colin Davis. He also performed as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the English Chamber Orchestra, among others. In addition to his work as a performer, Adeney was also a respected teacher and mentor to many young flutists. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and he was known for his patient and supportive approach to teaching. Throughout his career, Adeney received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of music. In 1962, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to music, and in 1977, he was awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal.
