Bell'arte Salzburg is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1991 in Salzburg, Austria. The group is known for its exceptional performances of Baroque and Classical music, and has gained a reputation as one of the finest ensembles in Europe. The group was founded by violinist Annegret Siedel and harpsichordist Stefan Moser, who were both students at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. They were joined by cellist Johannes Hämmerle and flutist Michaela Hrabankova, and together they formed Bell'arte Salzburg. From the beginning, the group was dedicated to performing music from the Baroque and Classical periods on period instruments. This meant that they used instruments that were similar to those that would have been used during the time the music was written, giving their performances a unique and authentic sound. Bell'arte Salzburg quickly gained a following in Austria and throughout Europe, and began to perform at major festivals and concert halls. In 1993, they were invited to perform at the prestigious Salzburg Festival, where they received critical acclaim for their performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. Over the years, Bell'arte Salzburg has continued to perform at major festivals and concert halls throughout Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Musikverein in Vienna. They have also toured extensively in Asia and the United States, and have collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Midori and pianist András Schiff. One of the highlights of Bell'arte Salzburg's career was their performance at the 2006 BBC Proms in London. They performed a program of Mozart and Haydn, and received a standing ovation from the audience. The performance was broadcast on BBC Radio 3, and was later released on CD. In addition to their performances, Bell'arte Salzburg has also recorded extensively. They have released over 20 CDs, including recordings of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, Mozart's Piano Concertos, and Haydn's London Symphonies. Their recordings have received critical acclaim, and have won several awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the Gramophone Award. Bell'arte Salzburg has also been recognized for their contributions to the world of classical music. In 2001, they were awarded the Mozart Medal by the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, in recognition of their outstanding performances of Mozart's music. They have also been awarded the Echo Klassik Award, the Austrian Music Award, and the German Record Critics' Award. Today, Bell'arte Salzburg continues to be one of the leading ensembles in the world of classical music. They are known for their exceptional performances of Baroque and Classical music, and for their dedication to using period instruments to create an authentic and unique sound. Their recordings and performances have earned them a devoted following, and they continue to inspire audiences around the world with their passion and artistry.
