Blossom Street Singers is a renowned classical music ensemble based in London, United Kingdom. The group was founded in 2003 by conductor and soprano Hilary Campbell, who remains the artistic director of the ensemble to this day. The group has gained a reputation for their exquisite performances of choral music from a wide range of eras and styles, and has won numerous awards and accolades for their work. The origins of Blossom Street Singers can be traced back to Hilary Campbell's time as a student at the University of York, where she studied music and sang in the university choir. After graduating, Campbell moved to London and began working as a freelance singer and conductor. In 2003, she decided to form her own ensemble, with the aim of exploring a wide range of choral music and performing it to the highest possible standard. The group's name, Blossom Street Singers, was inspired by the street in London where Campbell lived at the time. The name was chosen to reflect the group's commitment to creating beautiful, uplifting music that would bring joy to audiences. From the outset, Blossom Street Singers attracted talented singers from across London, many of whom had studied at some of the UK's leading music conservatoires. The group's first performance was in December 2003, at St. James's Church in Piccadilly, London. The programme included works by composers such as Bach, Handel, and Britten, and was met with critical acclaim. Over the years, Blossom Street Singers has gone from strength to strength, building a loyal following of fans and earning a reputation as one of the UK's leading choral ensembles. The group has performed at some of the country's most prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall, St. John's Smith Square, and the Wigmore Hall. One of the highlights of Blossom Street Singers' career came in 2011, when they were invited to perform at the BBC Proms. The group performed a programme of music by British composers, including works by Vaughan Williams, Britten, and Tippett. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, and was met with widespread critical acclaim. In addition to their work in the UK, Blossom Street Singers has also performed internationally, touring to countries such as Germany, Italy, and the United States. The group has collaborated with a wide range of musicians and ensembles, including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the London Mozart Players. Blossom Street Singers has also released several highly acclaimed recordings, including their debut album, "This Day", which was released in 2008. The album features a selection of choral music for Advent and Christmas, and has become a seasonal favourite among classical music fans. The group has also recorded albums of music by Bach, Handel, and Mozart, among others. In recognition of their outstanding work, Blossom Street Singers has won numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2013, the group was awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award for their recording of music by Thomas Tallis. The award was a major achievement for the group, and cemented their reputation as one of the UK's leading choral ensembles. In addition to their work as performers, Blossom Street Singers is also committed to supporting the next generation of choral musicians.
