Yousif Sheronick is a renowned percussionist and composer in the world of classical music. Born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1964, Sheronick grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. His father was a violinist and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged Sheronick to pursue music as a career. Sheronick began his musical training at the age of six, studying the tabla, a traditional Indian percussion instrument. He later learned to play the darbuka, a Middle Eastern drum, and the riq, a tambourine-like instrument. Sheronick also studied Western classical percussion, including the marimba, vibraphone, and timpani. In 1980, Sheronick moved to the United States to attend the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He studied with renowned percussionists such as James Preiss and Steve Reich, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1984. After graduation, Sheronick began performing with various ensembles and orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the American Symphony Orchestra. He also became a member of the percussion ensemble Talujon, which specializes in contemporary classical music. Sheronick's career highlights include performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. He has also performed at major music festivals around the world, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Ravinia Festival.
