He was born on September 6, 1942, in Athol, Massachusetts, and grew up in a musical family. His father was a trumpet player, and his mother was a pianist. Bargeron started playing the piano at the age of five and later switched to the trombone when he was in high school. Bargeron attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied jazz and classical music. He also played in various local bands and orchestras, including the Boston Pops Orchestra. After graduating from Berklee, Bargeron moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. In 1967, Bargeron joined the jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears as a trombonist and tuba player. The band was known for its fusion of rock, jazz, and blues, and Bargeron's versatile playing style was a perfect fit for the group. He played on several of the band's albums, including their self-titled second album, which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1970. Bargeron left Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1973 to pursue a solo career and to work as a session musician. He played on numerous albums for artists such as Paul Simon, James Taylor, and Eric Clapton. He also worked as a sideman for jazz musicians such as Gil Evans, Carla Bley, and Don Cherry. In addition to his work as a session musician, Bargeron continued to perform with various jazz and classical ensembles. He played with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He also played with the jazz fusion group Dreams, which included other notable musicians such as Billy Cobham, John Abercrombie, and Michael Brecker. Bargeron's versatility as a musician allowed him to play a wide range of musical styles, from classical to jazz to rock. He was known for his technical proficiency on the trombone and tuba, as well as his ability to improvise and play with feeling. His playing style was influenced by jazz musicians such as J.J.
