Argo Chamber Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The founding members of Argo Chamber Orchestra were violinist Shannon Lee, violist Molly Carr, cellist Michael Katz, and pianist Renana Gutman. All four musicians had studied at the Juilliard School and had performed extensively as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. From the beginning, Argo Chamber Orchestra set out to create a unique musical experience for audiences. The program featured new works by composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone and choreographer Troy Schumacher, and was praised for its innovative blend of music and dance. Argo Chamber Orchestra has also been recognized for its commitment to education and outreach. The ensemble has performed at schools and community centers throughout New York City, and has worked with young musicians through programs such as the Juilliard School's Music Advancement Program. In 2015, Argo Chamber Orchestra was awarded the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. The award recognized the ensemble's commitment to presenting new and innovative works, and helped to cement its reputation as one of the most exciting young ensembles in the classical music world. Recent highlights for the ensemble include a performance at the 2019 Chelsea Music Festival, where they premiered a new work by composer Gabriella Smith, and a collaboration with the dance company BalletCollective on a performance at the Joyce Theater in 2020.
