Knud Andersson was born on May 15, 1950, in Stockholm, Sweden. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a violinist and his mother a pianist. At the age of six, Knud began playing the violin and showed great talent from an early age. As a teenager, Knud studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he was mentored by the renowned violinist and pedagogue, Max Rostal. He also studied with other notable teachers, including Nathan Milstein and Henryk Szeryng. In 1972, Knud won first prize in the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in Denmark, which launched his career as a soloist. He went on to perform with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. One of the highlights of Knud's career was his performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 1985. The performance was recorded and released on CD, and it received critical acclaim for Knud's virtuosic playing and emotional interpretation of the piece. Knud was also a passionate chamber musician and collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. He was a founding member of the Kungsbacka Piano Trio, which was formed in 1992 and went on to become one of the most acclaimed piano trios in the world. In addition to his performing career, Knud was also a respected teacher and mentor. He taught at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and was a visiting professor at many other institutions around the world. He was known for his dedication to his students and his ability to inspire them to reach their full potential. Throughout his career, Knud received many awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1996, he was awarded the Litteris et Artibus medal by the Swedish government for his outstanding achievements in the arts. He was also a recipient of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's prestigious Interpretation Prize in 2005. Sadly, Knud passed away on December 30, 2018, at the age of 68. He left behind a legacy as one of the greatest violinists of his generation and a beloved teacher and mentor to many young musicians. His recordings and performances continue to inspire and move audiences around the world.
