Camerata Orphica is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2009 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The ensemble is known for its unique approach to classical music, which combines historical performance practices with modern interpretations. The group's name is derived from the Greek myth of Orpheus, the legendary musician who was said to have the power to charm even the gods with his music. The founding members of Camerata Orphica were all graduates of the National Academy of Music in Sofia, and they shared a passion for exploring the rich history of classical music. The group's original lineup consisted of violinists Dora Ivanova and Todor Petrov, violist Dimitar Tenchev, cellist Georgi Kostov, and harpsichordist Tzvetelina Dimova. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone some changes in membership, but its commitment to excellence in performance has remained constant. Camerata Orphica has performed extensively throughout Bulgaria and Europe, earning critical acclaim for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The ensemble has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Midori, cellist David Geringas, and conductor Jordi Savall. In addition to its concert performances, Camerata Orphica has also recorded several albums, including "Bach: The Art of Fugue" and "Vivaldi: The Four Seasons." One of the highlights of Camerata Orphica's career was its performance at the 2012 Sofia Music Weeks festival, where the ensemble was awarded the prestigious "Young Musician of the Year" award. The group's performance of Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No. 3" was hailed as a "tour de force" by critics, and the ensemble was praised for its "impeccable technique and musicality." Another notable performance by Camerata Orphica was its collaboration with Midori in 2014. The ensemble joined forces with the renowned violinist for a performance of Bach's "Double Concerto for Violin and Oboe" at the Sofia Philharmonic Hall. The concert was a sell-out success, and the ensemble was praised for its "sensitive and nuanced" accompaniment of Midori's virtuosic playing. Camerata Orphica has also been recognized for its commitment to promoting classical music to a wider audience. The ensemble has performed in schools and community centers throughout Bulgaria, and has worked with young musicians to develop their skills and passion for classical music. In 2016, the ensemble launched the "Camerata Orphica Academy," a program designed to provide advanced training and performance opportunities for young musicians. In addition to its concert performances, Camerata Orphica has also been active in the recording studio. The ensemble's debut album, "Bach: The Art of Fugue," was released in 2011 to critical acclaim. The album was praised for its "clarity and precision," and was named one of the top classical recordings of the year by several music publications. Camerata Orphica's second album, "Vivaldi: The Four Seasons," was released in 2014 and was similarly well-received. Overall, Camerata Orphica has established itself as one of the leading classical music ensembles in Bulgaria and Europe. The group's commitment to excellence in performance, innovative programming, and dedication to promoting classical music to a wider audience has earned it a loyal following and critical acclaim.More....
