Romero Lubambo is a Brazilian guitarist and composer who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born in 1955 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Lubambo grew up in a musical family and began playing the guitar at a young age. His father was a guitarist and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Lubambo's early influences included Brazilian musicians such as João Gilberto and Baden Powell, as well as American jazz guitarists like Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall. He began performing professionally in his teens, playing in local clubs and bars in Rio de Janeiro. In the 1980s, Lubambo began to gain international recognition for his guitar playing. He toured with Brazilian jazz singer Flora Purim and her husband, percussionist Airto Moreira, and also worked with jazz saxophonist Stan Getz. He recorded several albums with Purim and Moreira, including the critically acclaimed "The Magicians" in 1986. Lubambo's reputation as a versatile and skilled guitarist continued to grow throughout the 1990s. He worked with a wide range of musicians, including jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, pop singer Diana Krall, and classical guitarist Sharon Isbin. He also released several solo albums, including "Softly" in 1997 and "Rio de Janeiro Underground" in 2001. One of Lubambo's most notable collaborations was with jazz singer and pianist Diana Krall. He played on several of her albums, including "All for You: A Dedication to the Nat King Cole Trio" in 1996 and "The Look of Love" in 2001. He also toured with Krall and appeared on her live album "Live in Paris" in 2002. Lubambo's skill as a guitarist has earned him numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1998, he was named "Best Brazilian Guitarist" by Guitar Player magazine. He has also been nominated for several Grammy Awards, including for his work on Krall's "The Look of Love" and Isbin's "Journey to the New World." In addition to his work as a performer, Lubambo is also a respected composer and arranger. He has written music for films and television shows, as well as for his own albums. His compositions often blend elements of Brazilian music with jazz and classical influences. Today, Lubambo continues to perform and record music, both as a solo artist and as a collaborator with other musicians. He remains one of the most respected and sought-after guitarists in the world of classical music, and his contributions to the genre have helped to expand its boundaries and reach new audiences.
