Artist Info
Juan Jackson was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Jackson showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. At the age of six, Jackson began taking piano lessons, and by the time he was ten, he had already performed in several local concerts. He continued to study piano throughout his childhood and teenage years, and also began to explore other instruments, including the violin and the cello. In 2003, Jackson was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied piano performance under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Jackson also had the opportunity to work with other notable musicians, including violinist Itzhak Perlman and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. After graduating from Juilliard in 2007, Jackson began to establish himself as a solo pianist, performing in concerts and recitals across the United States and Europe. He quickly gained a reputation for his technical skill and musical sensitivity, and was praised by critics for his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. One of Jackson's most notable performances came in 2010, when he was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as part of the center's "Rising Stars" series. The concert, which featured Jackson performing works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt, was a critical and commercial success, and helped to further establish Jackson as one of the most promising young pianists of his generation. In addition to his solo work, Jackson has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and ensembles. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others, and has also worked with a variety of chamber music groups and vocalists. Throughout his career, Jackson has received numerous awards and honors for his work as a pianist. In 2012, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a career in classical music. He has also been a recipient of the Gilmore Young Artist Award, the Arthur Rubinstein Prize, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Despite his success as a performer, Jackson remains committed to his work as a teacher and mentor. He has taught master classes at a number of universities and conservatories, and has also worked with young musicians through various outreach programs and community initiatives. In addition to his work as a musician, Jackson is also an avid philanthropist, and has been involved in a number of charitable organizations throughout his career. He has worked with organizations such as UNICEF and the American Red Cross, and has also established his own foundation, the Juan Jackson Foundation, which provides support and resources to young musicians from underprivileged backgrounds.
