He was the son of a court musician and was introduced to music at a young age. Neukomm showed a natural talent for music and began composing at the age of 12. Neukomm's family moved to Vienna when he was a teenager, and he continued his musical education under the tutelage of some of the most prominent composers of the time, including Joseph Haydn and Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Neukomm quickly gained a reputation as a talented composer and pianist, and he was soon performing in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe. In 1804, Neukomm was invited to accompany Prince Pedro of Brazil on a trip to South America. Neukomm spent several years in Brazil, where he composed some of his most famous works, including his Requiem Mass in C minor. Neukomm also became a close friend of the famous composer and pianist Franz Liszt, who was also living in Brazil at the time. After returning to Europe, Neukomm continued to compose and perform, and he became a sought-after composer for royal courts and other wealthy patrons. He composed music for the coronation of King Charles X of France in 1825 and was later appointed as the court composer for the King of Portugal. Neukomm's music was heavily influenced by the classical composers of his time, including Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. His compositions were known for their intricate harmonies and complex melodies, and he was particularly skilled at writing choral music. Some of Neukomm's most famous works include his Requiem Mass in C minor, his Te Deum in D major, and his Symphony in G minor. He also composed a number of operas, including La mort d'Abel and Les deux journées. Despite his success as a composer, Neukomm struggled financially throughout his life. He was often forced to rely on the patronage of wealthy individuals to support his work, and he frequently had to borrow money to pay his bills. Neukomm died on April 3, 1858, in Paris, France. Despite his financial struggles, he left behind a rich legacy of music that continues to be performed and appreciated by classical music enthusiasts around the world.More....
