The Accademia di Santa Cecilia Chamber Chorus is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Rome, Italy. Founded in 1965, the ensemble has established itself as one of the leading choral groups in the world, known for its exceptional performances of both sacred and secular music. The Accademia di Santa Cecilia Chamber Chorus was founded by the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, one of the oldest and most prestigious musical institutions in the world. The Accademia was founded in Rome in 1585 by Pope Sixtus V, and has since played a significant role in the development of classical music in Italy and beyond. The Accademia di Santa Cecilia Chamber Chorus was established as a smaller ensemble within the larger Accademia, with the aim of performing chamber music and choral works. The ensemble's founding members included some of the most talented singers in Italy at the time, including soprano Maria Callas and tenor Carlo Bergonzi. Over the years, the ensemble has attracted many other talented singers, and has become known for its exceptional vocal quality and musicality. The Accademia di Santa Cecilia Chamber Chorus has performed extensively throughout Italy and around the world, and has collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras in the world. Some of the ensemble's most notable performances include its 1979 performance of Mozart's Requiem under the direction of Herbert von Karajan, and its 1993 performance of Verdi's Requiem under the direction of Claudio Abbado. In addition to its performances, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia Chamber Chorus has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1970, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati, which is awarded annually by the Italian Association of Music Critics to the best musical performances of the year. The ensemble has also been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque, one of the most prestigious awards in the classical music world, for its recordings of works by Mozart, Verdi, and other composers. The Accademia di Santa Cecilia Chamber Chorus has undergone several changes over the years, with new members joining and old members leaving. However, the ensemble has remained committed to its mission of performing the highest quality chamber music and choral works, and has continued to inspire audiences around the world with its exceptional performances.
